Led by award-winning pianist Dr. Zachary Bartholomew, this performance celebrate the vibrant fusion of jazz with Caribbean, Spanish, and South American musical traditions, a sound famously described by Jelly Roll Morton as the "Spanish Tinge". From the habanera rhythms of early New Orleans jazz to the deep groves of Afro-Cuban jazz and beyond, this program showcases music by trailblazing artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Chano Pozo, Jelly Roll Morton, Mario Bauza, and more.
This concert also features original compositions by Bartholomew, inspired by this rhythmic heritage and reimagines through a modern jazz lens - bridging continents, generations, and styles
